Established in 2011, The Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships were launched to explore and mentor the future generation of exceptional African leaders. Each year, 3 fellows are taken on board to work in the executive offices of the ECA (Addis Ababa), AfDB (Abidjan), or the ITC (Geneva), with a stipend of $100,000.

Successful fellows obtain both technical and leadership expertise during the one-year program (12-month program) while they contribute directly to research and policy design. The best and most special feature of this magnificent fellowship program is to have an opportunity to benefit from the direct mentorship of the heads of the host organizations.

There are other benefits associated with The Ibrahim Leadership Fellowship Program – fellows also become Now Generation Network (NGN) members through which they keep contributing their insights and skills to building a better Africa.

Successful candidates (fellows) will be hosted at the International Trade Centre, the African Development Bank, and the United Economic Commission for Africa. Each of these mentioned institutions will host one individual, offering the candidates (fellows) the chance to learn from and contribute to their senior management teams working all over Africa. Additionally, the fellows will get tailored mentorship from world leaders in a different range of fields, obtaining insights to help shape their journeys of leadership (their personal leadership journeys).

Criteria for Eligibility for the 2025 Ibrahim Leadership Fellowship

Applicants must have at least seven years of relevant experience
They must be the nationals of an African country
They should host a Master’s degree
Their age should be under 40, or 45 for women with kids

Note: It should be noted that the additional criteria set by the host organizations could apply.
