Eligibility Criteria for the 2026 Sloan Research Fellowships
The following Sloan Fellowship eligibility requirements need to be met. Let’s find them out.
- The applicants are required to have a PhD or its equivalent degree in computer science, chemistry, earth system science, mathematics, economics, physics, neuroscience, or a relevant field
- They need to be members of the faculty of a university, college, or other degree-granting institution in Canada or the USA
- The applicants for this opportunity must be tenure-track, though untenured, as of September 15 of the nomination year
- The faculty position of the candidates must carry a regular teaching obligation

Nomination for the Sloan Research Fellowship
- To be considered for a 2026 Sloan Research Fellowship, the candidate has to have a letter of nomination from a department head or other senior researcher. It must be noted that those submissions that are unaccompanied by a nomination letter from a senior researcher will not be accepted
- It also needs to be understood that more than one candidate from a department could be nominated per fellowship field, but no more than three.

The foundation will award two-year $75,000 fellowships per year to early-career researchers whose creativity, research accomplishments, and innovation make them stand out as the next generation of leaders.
Required Documents
- A department letter from the department head or other senior researcher is required that officially nominates the candidate and describes his or her qualifications, research, and initiative
- CV that includes a list of the scientific publications of the candidate
- Two representative articles by the applicant/candidate that highlight his or her independent research
- Three letters from other researchers are also required (preferably not all from the same institution), written to support the nomination of the candidate
- A one-page statement (written briefly) by the candidate showing his or her significant scientific work and immediate research plans
