Eligibility Requirements for the American University Emerging Global Scholarship 2026
The applicants will not be eligible to apply if:
- They are United States citizens, S. pending permanent residents, U.S. permanent residents, or dual citizens of the U.S. and another country
- They are enrolled in or have already started their post-secondary studies at another university in the U.S.A. or in their home countries
- They have graduated from their secondary schooling earlier than 2023
The university will prefer those applicants who:
- Are international students who have overcome different challenges and obstacles, as well as those from diverse and underrepresented global and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Have demonstrated commitment to volunteerism, leadership, community service, and to advancing the people’s needs in their respective countries
- Meet the university’s English proficiency criteria
- Are still enrolled in secondary/high school and graduating by June 2026
Financial Coverage for the AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship
Two successful candidates will receive the coverage for all billable AU expenses (full tuition, board, and room). The scholarship is renewable for a total of 4 years of undergraduate study based on the student’s continued satisfactory academic performance.
There are AU EGL partial scholarships also in addition to the above-mentioned two full AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarships. These are up to eight additional partial scholarships valued at up to USD$40,000 per year. For partial scholarships, there is no additional application procedure required to be eligible.

The last submission date for the applications is 15th January 2026.
Application Process for the American University Emerging Global Scholarship
There are two steps involved in the application process. Let’s check them out.
Step One – Interested and eligible applicants wishing to be considered for full or partial scholarships must first submit their common application together with all supporting documents before the deadline, i.e., 15th January 2026.
Step Two – The applicants are required to submit the AU EGL Scholarship application plus essays through their applicant portal by the deadline of 15th January 2026. They have to complete step one before submitting the AU EGLS application.
The university recommends that applicants should apply for regular decision for Fall 2026, though a few of the early applicants could be deferred for further consideration for the American University EGLS scholarship.
