DAAD Offers Degree Completion Scholarships for International Students in Germany

Eligibility Criteria

Those who are interested in applying for degree completion scholarships for international students at RWTH AACHEN University need to meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants should be enrolled as a degree-seeking student at RWTH (exchange and short-term students, as well as participants in German language courses, are not eligible for this scholarship)
  • They need to remain in Germany for the whole duration of the award (scholarship). Semesters or internships abroad are excluded
  • They must have obtained their university entrance qualification outside Germany (not at a German school in Germany or abroad)
  • They need to be international applicants (those who do not hold German citizenship)
  • Their studies will continue at least through December 2026
  • They should not be the recipients of any other scholarship while the funding is on (funding period)
  • Students/applicants’ gross income from employment is under €1,248 per month
  • They should be in the final phase of their education and will complete their degree within 12 months from the beginning of funding
  • They are required to remain in Germany during this final phase of study
  • Applicants are presently experiencing/witnessing financial hardship during the final phase of their studies

Funding Availability

There is funding available under degree completion scholarships for international students. Funding will be conferred for a period of one to five months, with €500 per month stipend. Scholarships will be provided to selected candidates by a selection committee of the international office in January 2026 and July 2026. It will be based on the submitted documents and individual circumstances.

Required Documents

The following required documents need to be submitted in full via the online application portal.

  • Resume/CV
  • Current certificate of enrollment
  • Current transcript, including applicant’s GPA
  • Bank statements for all personal accounts for the last 3 months (joint accounts also need to be included for married applicants)
  • Passport copy and, if applicable, applicant’s residence permit copy (front and back)
  • If the applicant has additional income, in that case, a copy of the applicant’s employment contract and recent/latest pay statements are required. It is the applicants’ duty to inform the international office immediately if their employment status or working hours change during the period of funding. If their gross income exceeds €556, the amount of the scholarship will be reduced
  • Rejection letter or BAföG notification, if applicable (BAföG is Germany’s federal student aid program), should be provided
  • Proof of thesis registration is needed (visa the ZPA or transcript entry). If the applicants have not registered yet at the time of application. They should provide documentation of their thesis writing period (official completion time frame)
  • An advisor statement is required outlining their academic achievements and progress

Application Period

The first round of the applications starts from 25th October 2025 and will last till 25th November 2025, with funding from February to June 2026

The second round of the applications starts from 1st May and will last till 1st June 2026, with funding from August to December 2026
