About the ICANN Fellowship Program

The goal behind the fellowship program is to strengthen the multistakeholder model’s representation by fostering opportunities for individuals coming from underrepresented and underserved communities to become active participants in the community of ICANN.

Successful fellows will be exposed to the ICANN community working. They will be assigned a mentor and will receive training across various fields of knowledge and skill-building before, during, and after the ICANN meeting.

Eligibility Criteria for the ICANN86 Fellowship 2026

For this fellowship program, candidates or the applications from all regions and sectors are welcome and must meet the ICANN Fellowship Program eligibility requirements. Participants of the ICANN Fellowship Program must:

Be interested in, or already engaged in, the different components of ICANN’s work in policy building, the security and stability of the world’s internet, and the operation of the DNS (Domain Name System)
Be a minimum age of 21
Not be involved in or associated/affiliated with other travel programs of ICANN by the time of selection
Complete mandatory ICANN learn course(s)
Understand that the policy forum applicants must have completed an ICANN fellowship successfully
Have earlier (previously) received no more than 2 fellowships – second- and third-time fellows have to prove their engagement and involvement in one of the ICANN communities

Note: It needs to be noted that returning fellows will be taken into consideration for the Tarek Kamel Fellowship Recognition. The award recognizes the exceptional contributions of fellows to further the capacity development efforts of the ICANN in their respective regions.

A chosen fellow who resides or works in an African region having a technical background will be considered for the Paul Muchene Fellow Award.
