Period of Internship
The duration of the internship program is up to 90 consecutive calendar days for chosen applicants. Please note that for internship requests that exceed 90 days, interested candidates are advised to contact the researcher they wish to apply to.
Eligibility Standards for the NIMS Internship Program 2026
- Only current undergraduate, graduate and PhD students are eligible
- All nationalities are eligible to apply
- It must be noted that applicants need to be enrolled as undergraduate, graduate, or PhD students at the time of application submission and throughout the period of internship
Financial Coverage for the NIMS Internship Program
- Successful students (applicants) will be offered a daily allowance
- Accommodation fees (excluding utilities) will be provided
- Transport support will also be offered only to chosen bachelor’s interns and includes one round-trip flight (from the intern’s home country to Narita/Haneda)
- One round-trip highway bus fare between Tsukuba and the airport

- Master’s and doctoral students are required to submit both undergraduate and graduate transcripts

Application Process for the NIMS Internship Program
There is a process (step by step) for application submission mentioned as follows:
- Applicants cannot apply directly for the internship program
- They first need to contact the supervisor of their interest at NIMS. They should search (NIMS Researchers Directory Service ‘SAMURAI’
- If the supervisor shows affirmation in having the applicant as an intern, then the applicant has to submit the above documents to the supervisor
- After the documents are screened, the supervisor will inform the applicant of the next process
