Internships are offered by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) which offers the international internship pilot program (IIPP) to attract global talents. Objective of the International Internship Pilot Program (IIPP)

NSTC aims to provide a platform for foreign researchers to intern in Taiwan by generating opportunities for them to familiarize themselves with the research capabilities of Taiwan. The ultimate purpose of this internship program is to encourage foreign interns to stay in Taiwan for further education or employment thereby enriching the research workforce of Taiwan.

Details Regarding the International Internship Pilot Program in Taiwan

Successful interns (who are chosen for the program) will do their internship in academic and research institutions in Taiwan. Foreign students are eligible to apply – bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD students with foreign nationality studying in colleges and universities abroad and whose specialty meets the core strategic industries can apply for these available internships.

Since the school terms vary, thus, interns are allowed to start their three-month or less internships at any time between the period of May 2024 to January 2025 of the following year they are accepted. However, interested students should apply no later than 15th September 2024.

Host Institutions Under the NSTC International Internship Pilot Program

These happen to be the best internship opportunities for students. The selected interns will receive their internship at participating host institutions. These include Taiwanese academic and research institutions and labradorites. The internships (internship positions) will be provided by project leaders (PIs) executing NSTC research projects (that include collaborative projects of industry and academia plus bilateral cooperation projects).

Since there are variations in academic schedules in various countries, internships can be arranged with periods lasting up to 3 months between May 2024 and February 2025. Content of the Internship

Successful interns will get themselves engaged in related research and learning based on the themes of research and fields of the participating projects. While the internship goes on, PIs will provide appropriate guidance to the interns in addition to assisting them in diverse interactions with local students plus learning about Taiwan itself.

Internship Quota for the International Internship Pilot Program (IIPP)

There are 600 individuals required for internship, this is the maximum quota. From May 2024 to February 2025, IIPP will recruit 600 interns. Therefore, interested students have scope to get recruited.

Eligibility Criteria for the NSTC International Internship Pilot Program

  • Foreign nationals are eligible excluding Hong Kong & Macau and Mainland China. International students studying at overseas HEIs (higher education institutions) meeting the focal areas of Taiwan’s research and development are eligible.
  • Students having a background in humanities and social sciences are also included (these consist of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students as well as foreign/international students who have completed exchange programs in Taiwan and have not returned to their respective countries yet).
  • Proficiency in one of the next mentioned languages is required – English, Taiwanese, or Mandarin. During registration, language proficiency levels have to be indicated and relevant proof documents have to be uploaded.

Financial Coverage

During the internship duration which will last 3 months at most, NSTC will provide a subsidy of NT$30,000 per month.

How to Apply for the NSTC International Internship Pilot Program

You can only submit your application online. There are a few documents that are required, these include a passport, resume, officially issued proof of current enrollment, and one recommendation letter from your teacher.
