Project Overview
The selected PhD Researcher will develop a framework and strategies for the long-term and sustainable adoption of AM in underserved communities by making a tangible impact on world challenges through scientific and engineering research.
As far as the development and validation of the framework are concerned, it is expected to be supported by case studies pouring a focus on redesign, realization, and validation of 3D printing technologies for underserved countries. On the part of the validation, it will have a strapping focus on the exploration of the social dynamics in the target communities with methodologies and developed technologies to ensure sustainable adoption of the printing technology.

Eligibility Criteria for Fully Funded PhD Researcher Required at the University of Twente

- The candidate should be a creative thinker with problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- The faculty seeks strong written and verbal communication skills in the candidate who should also have the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- There will be a willingness to conduct field studies in different underserved communities, potentially including international travel.
- It would be advantageous if the candidate has hands-on experience including technical modification and optimization of 3D printing technologies, humanitarian engineering, and materials science (especially polymers).
- Proficiency in the English language is required which is why the candidate must be able to write and speak in English (C1 level minimum is required).

Available Funding
- You will be offered a 4-year PhD position.

- You will be offered a gross monthly salary that ranges from €2.872 (first year) to €3.670 (fourth year).
