Job Description of the Research Fellow Required at UNU-MERIT

  • To identify topics in AI research (publications) and inventions (patents)
  • To estimate the AI technologies’ relevance for verifying subnational and national challenges
  • To estimate the potential adoption of artificial technologies (AI) in agriculture under varying substantial conditions
  • The successful research fellow will also combine Large Language Model (LLM) and BERT-type models to examine patents and research publications in combination with other unstructured data sources like media, policy documents, online job vacancies, and call transcripts.

Eligibility Criteria for PostDoc Researcher at UNU-MERIT (Research Fellow)

  • A complete PhD degree is required (or near completion) in the areas of Innovation Studies, Economics, Data Science, Scientometrics, Computational Social Sciences, or related quantitative social sciences
  • The applicant must have Strong quantitative skills and experience with machine learning for text analysis, scientometric methods, and possibly LLMs.
  • The candidates must have experience in the analysis of science and technology data (patents and publications), and or other textual data
  • Knowledge of or the candidate’s strong interest in artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and their applications is required
  • Skills with proficiency in data analysis and programming languages (e.g., Python, R) are required
  • The candidate must be able to discover new unstructured data and methods
  • The ideal applicant must have strong attention to detail with attractive organizational skills. The candidate should also have the ability to manage various and concurrent tasks
  • Besides, the applicant should also have the evidence of engagement in higher-quality research activity, exceptional presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectually both verbally and in writing with colleagues, students, and external audiences
  • The candidates must have the ability to exercise a degree of innovation and creative problem-solving, exceptional organizational and administrative skills, plus the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • The applicant should also carry the ability to work solely on their own initiative and without close supervision, and as part of a team

Remuneration and Benefits

  • The Research Fellow Required at UNU-MERIT in the Netherlands will be offered an attractive salary and benefits. The fellow (PostDoc Researcher) will be employed by the most international university in Holland (the Netherlands), located in the eye-candy city of Maastricht.
  • The fellow will be graded on a scale 10 according to the UFO profile researcher
  • Salary will range from €3378,00 and €5331,00 gross per month (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week)
  • An 8.0% holiday allowance plus an 8.3% year-end bonus will be offered
  • Employment contract will be for one year, but will be extendable up to 18 months
  • Maastricht University offers the opportunity to work partly from home, if the nature of the job allows it. If it happens, the candidate will be provided with a monthly commuting and internet allowance
  • A full-time research fellow will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year. If the fellow chooses to accumulate compensation hours, an additional twelve days will also be added
