There are two types of scholarships offered to students by the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS). These include the BlueFloat EnergyôNadara Partnership Ocean Leader Scholarships, and the SAMS International Scholarship. First Scholarship – BlueFloat EnergyôNadara Partnership Ocean Leader Scholarships

BlueFloat Energy | Nadara Partnership sponsors the Ocean Leader Scholarships this year. Therefore, BlueFloat Energy and Nadara support marine scientists who are aspiring to make a career either within or supporting the offshore renewable sector. A limited number of one-off bursaries valued at £1500 each to be paid in two instalments at the beginning of each semester in the academic year 2025-26.

Eligibility Criteria

This is open to all undergraduate marine scientists who are either new students or will be continuing their education (studies) and registered in a course from September 2026
The support will be provided for one year only. Thus, those who are successful in gaining the scholarship will be ineligible for support in the following years
Applicants could be UK, Scottish, EU, or international students studying in the marine science program (or associated streams)
They need to be willing to participate in promotional activities led by the Scottish Association for Marine Science following the scholarship decision and award
They are required to be able to share the details on their academic achievements and future career aspirations

Financial Coverage

Successful candidates will be offered £1500 each to be paid in two instalments at the start of each semester in the academic year 2025-26. 7 scholarships will be offered.

Second Scholarship – SAMS International Scholarship

SAMS is determined and committed to supporting exceptional talent from across the globe to study marine science in Oban, on the west coast of Scotland.

SAMS offers three international scholarships this year to international undergraduate students who share its vision for sustainable and healthy oceans. SAMS trains the next generation of marine scientists. The students of SAMS may begin their careers as conservation management specialists, scientific researchers, science teachers, marine biotechnologists, policy makers, and environmental consultants.

Eligibility Criteria

If you would like to apply for one of these SAMS Undergraduate Scholarships in Scotland, you need to meet the eligibility standards mentioned below:

Applicants must be overseas (international) non-EU students eligible to pay full international undergraduate student fees
To apply for the scholarship, they must have obtained a formal study offer from SAMS for the marine science undergraduate degree program
They have to be willing to participate in promotional activities led by the Scottish Association for Marine Science, following the decision on scholarship and award
