Financial Coverage Under the University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarships 

The scholarship scheme of the university for PhD candidates comprises:

  • $34,569 per annum – a tax-free stipend with an annual CPI adjustment to the stipend value for up to 3 years FTE*
  • Tuition fees for up to 3 years FTE
  • Single student health insurance compulsory charge
  • A further 6 months of scholarship funding could also be offered following the initial scholarship

Key Dates to Remember

Interested and eligible candidates are required to apply by 1st September 2025. They will get a scholarship offer by 1st November 2025. Domestic candidates need to enroll in the program with the domestic qualifying program by 1st December 2025 or 1st March 2026. International students with having international qualifying program should enroll by 1st December 2025 or 1st March 2026, or 1st June 2026.

How to Apply 

The application process is simple and easy. Any candidates who are to be offered a place in a PhD/doctoral program will be eligible for this scholarship before receiving their offer of a place. By the time, the applicants apply for a doctoral study, they will be offered an opportunity to confirm whether or not they also wish to be considered for a University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarship. There is no need to apply separately.

Those who already have scholarship funding and/or do not want to be considered for this opportunity need to confirm this in their application form so that their application can then be processed quickly.

Those applicants who are still completing their qualifying program and/or have not yet received their final grades from their qualifying program can still be considered for the scholarship. It may mean that they receive a conditional offer for the scholarship and/or admission to the PhD program/doctoral program.
