Eligibility Criteria for Scholarship

If you want to apply for this opportunity, you need to meet the eligibility requirements set for the University of Otago Ralph Moir Memorial Entrance Scholarship.

For these entrance scholarships, applications are normally open to students who meet the eligibility requirements of 1.1 or 1.2, and 2. Those applicants who fit within 3 are ineligible.

– The applicant is a New Zealand citizen or a New Zealand residence class visa holder, or
– The applicant is an international student who has obtained or completed year 12 and/or has completed or is in the process of completing year 13 at a school in New Zealand, or an equivalent foundation-level course at a tertiary institution in New Zealand. And
– The applicant wants to enroll or has enrolled for the first time for a first-year (100-level papers), full-time first-degree level, undergraduate study program at Otago University (The University of Otago). But
– Those applicants who have studied more than 0.4 EFTs at a tertiary institution or any university at the degree-level program or higher are not eligible normally. *

*Exceptions to 0.4 EFTS or less will be taken into consideration when all previous tertiary or university-level study program has been done/undertaken while concurrently enrolled at secondary school.

As a successful candidate under the University of Otago Ralph Moir Memorial Entrance Scholarship, you will be offered attractive financial coverage available for the eligible study program.

2 years is the standard tenure
To get this scholarship, the recipient of the scholarship has to be enrolled in the surveying first-year (BSc) program in year one of tenure.
Tenure in year two will be subject to the scholarship recipient’s being accepted into and enrolled in the full Bachelor of Surveying program.
For those candidates accepting a place in a residential college or university flat, the scholarship will be provided as an accommodation fee exemption of $5,000 in year one to be paid directly to the university flat or residential college and $10,000 towards tuition fees for year two.
For those applicants residing in the local community (such as flatting, boarding, or living at home), the funding will normally consist of $5,000 in year one, firstly towards student services fees and tuition, if applicable, then as a stipend per month or lump sum, and $10,000 to be paid towards tuition fees for year two.
In case, the tuition fees happen to be greater than $10,000 for year two, the donor in that case could select to provide or offer additional support at their discretion.
On the part of the scholarship recipients, they are required to record or write a thank you message to the donors. Scholarship payment could be withheld until the Development and Alumni Relations Office receives the message to pass on to the donors.
At the discretion of the panel of scholarship, this scholarship opportunity could be held concurrently with any other undergraduate entrance scholarship at the University of Otago.
