Note: This internship programme offers internship positions within the International Military Staff, NATO International Staff, and some of the NATO agencies and bodies at NATO Headquarters.

Eligibility Criteria for the NATO Internship Programme

To be considered for this internship programme, you need to meet the eligibility requirements mentioned ahead.

Applicants should be 21 years of age or above (21+).
They need to be the citizens of a NATO member country.
Applicants should have at least 2 years of university completed and enrolled in a third year or have obtained their highest degree less than a year prior.
They should have proficiency in one of the two official NATO languages – English or French. If they have a working knowledge of the second language that would be considered an asset. The applicants’ knowledge of other languages could also be considered an asset for certain positions.

Benefits and Compensations for NATO Internship

Following are the compensations and benefits to be offered to successful candidates.

Stipend for Internship – A monthly stipend of EUR 1,217 2024 will be provided to selected candidates for the NATO-Funded internship programme. This amount will change by year in line with inflation and NATO salary adjustments.

Travel – Once the Internship Office at NATO confirms the beginning date for internships, the selected interns will be provided with a train ticket/prepaid flight from your place of origin at a return economy rate, and for an amount of up to 1200 Euros. For those who are traveling to Brussels by car, the costs incurred (consumed) on traveling will be reimbursed.

Leave – A paid leave of 15 days during the 6 months of internship will be entitled to the interns.

In-House Training – During the programme of internship, interns will participate in an induction programme and monthly briefings so that they can be provided with an overview of NATO’s structure and activities. These briefings will be beneficial for interns as they present novel opportunities to meet officials and experienced staff from across the Alliance to discuss topics of interest with them and with other interns. The participants (interns) will also be taken on visits to other institutions such as the European Parliament.
