About HZDR Summer Student Program 2024

This summer program is for students who are from natural and related sciences fields who would like to join HZDR’s research teams in Dresden from July to September (in between this time). HZDR invites applications from Master’s and diploma students from all parts of the world.

What Will Students Do at HZDR?

The students in this summer student program will work on individual projects submitted by HZDR research groups. By the time the applications are received and the participants in this program are chosen, a matching procedure will be conducted. The work in the research groups will be complemented by a series of lectures created to provide an in-depth insight into the research in different areas of the HZDR.

Goal of the Program – Summer Student Program 2024 at HZDR

Research done at the HZDR carries many facets providing the students with a novel opportunity to work in natural sciences (physical and life sciences) whilst they focus on fundamental or application-driven research or technology development.

The students in the summer program would be an important part of the research groups. The tasks, assigned to the chosen students, will consist of hands-on operations in research labs to data analysis, theoretical science, and scientific computing. Program Language

The medium of instruction (program language) will be English. Therefore, the applicants are highly expected to be proficient in English language both in written and spoken language.

Duration of HZDR Summer Student Program

HZDR will welcome the selected students to come to its research center from July until September 2024. Once your application is accepted and you are taken on board, you and your supervisor will decide the exact time of your stay at HZDR.

The minimum length of the stay will be six weeks and the maximum duration will be nine weeks. It is vital to present there during the entire lecture period (July to September 2024).

Eligibility Criteria for HZDR Summer Student Program 2024

You need to meet the following requirements to apply for the HZDR Summer Student Program.

You need to be a Master’s or diploma student of natural sciences (life or physical sciences) or relevant studies.
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree. In the case of diploma programs, applicants should have a confirmation of passing the 3^rd year of studies before the upcoming summer.
You may prove your good academic standing (performance) through your grades and a recommendation letter written by a scientist who is well aware of you and your work. The recommender should be in a position to evaluate it.
Applicants have to possess a valid university enrollment covering the entire period of the program (student ID).
To participate in all activities of the program, you need to show proficiency in the English language.
Applicants who already have a Master’s degree but not being students of different Master’s courses as well as PhD students are not at all eligible for this program.
Applicants who had a contract at HZDR one year before 1^st July of the targeted year are also not eligible for this summer student program.
