Highlights of the United Nations Food Systems Coordination Hub Youth Leadership Program

This is a workshop for early career professionals. Chosen participants will be invited to participate in this novel five-day in-person leadership building workshop. The mission behind this unique program is to facilitate connections among practitioners, early-career innovators, scientists, and activists from low and middle-income countries.

This togetherness will turn into a positive change and bring in positive outcomes since they will connect policy advocacy with grassroots action to collectively shape a positive food future.

Learn: The chosen participants will be engaged in a five-day co-creative workshop that will bridge the gap between knowledge, data, and implementation. Participants will discover modules like policy advocacy, negotiations, strategic communications, and evidence-based decision-making.

Get Inspired: The participants of the program will immerse themselves in presentations delivered by seasoned scientists, practitioners, young global food champions, and influencers shaping food systems’ future.

Act: The workshop will co-create a community of practice, sharpen participants’ leadership expertise, and develop transformative initiatives for low and middle-income countries to transform their systems for food.

United Nations Youth Leadership Program Content

This program is unique and will increase your skills (expertise) in:

Governance Systems: You will be able to negotiate and design multi-stakeholder procedures for food systems governance.

Policy Advocacy: You will be a master in leadership skills for policy advocacy, bridging the gap from world (global) to local and vice versa. You will learn how to skillfully and effectively target policy procedures at local, regional, and then world levels.

Communication and Storytelling for Impact: You will be able to craft attractive/impactful communication and strategies for storytelling, raising awareness, and grabbing funds for your initiatives.

Science and Evidence-Based Decision-Making: You will be able to build proposals and forge partnerships based on scientific evidence.

Dates and Location of the Workshop

As far as the dates and location of the United Nations Food Systems Youth Leadership Program are concerned, these workshops are scheduled to take place from March to April 2024. The exact dates and locations of these workshops will be announced soon.

Eligibility Criteria for the Youth Leadership Program

There is a competitive selection procedure involved in this program. This program targets early career professionals who are from all disciplinary backgrounds and show their interest in leading food systems solutions in 3 regions – Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean Africa, Asia and the Pacific.
The candidates who are already engaged in the activities of food systems like a civil society member, researcher, or in other capacities are eligible to apply.
Age should be between 18 to 35 years (no older than 35 years by December 2023).
Applicants are eligible if they are from low and middle-income countries (as per the World Bank classification).

Funding Opportunity for the United Nations Food Systems Youth Leadership Program

If you are chosen for sponsorship, the Hub will prioritize as many countries as possible with the purpose of supporting at least one candidate per country. The selected candidate will receive full travel coverage, accommodation coverage, and coverage for meals during the training.
For those candidates who are self-funded, they will be responsible for covering their accommodation, travel, and any additional expenditures. There is no participation fee for the workshop.
An invitation letter will be issued to all participants whether they are sponsored or self-funded. If necessary, the hub will provide a visa support letter to assist with the required travel documentation.
Upon successful completion of the workshop, all participants will be provided with a certificate of attendance.

Program Timeline of the United Nations Youth Leadership Program

If interested and eligible to apply, you should then submit your application by 15^th January 2024.
If chosen for the program, you will be informed about your selection by the end of January.
In the first week of February, you will have one week time to respond to the invitation letter mentioning that you accept the invitation and will remain available to attend the youth leadership program.
By the end of February, you will get information on the program and the agenda of the workshop, etc.
